Only a short way from Taj Mahal is Agra Fort, a 16th-centry Mughal fortress of red sandstone that served as the imperial city for the Mughals.

Taj Mahal is more famous, but Agra Fort actaully housed the imperial city from which the Mughals ruled. These days, Agra is home to some sixty thousand people, and three of her monuments are World Heritage sites.
